WSSAF Foundation Scholarship! Jan 17, 2025
The Washington State Society of American Foresters (WSSAF) is now accepting scholarship applications from students pursuing a degree in forestry. The 2023-2024 scholarship is available to individuals who will attend full time during the 2024–25 school year in forestry program. The Foundation provides scholarships for forestry students and as a source of funds for other purposes related to forestry education. Wood Studies Scholarship Opportunity! Jan 12, 2025
The National Wood Flooring Association, located in St. Charles, Missouri, is continuing to offer a college scholarship that may be of interest you. They have one scholarship available for high school seniors and one for current college students. The NWFA Education & Research Foundation Wood Studies Scholarship is designed to promote the post-secondary study of forestry and forestry-related sciences. Each spring, this nonrenewable scholarship in the amount of $1,000 is awarded to one current high school senior and who will study forestry in an effort to advance and improve forestry practices for generations to come. We will be returning to Cavness to burn piles of Christmas trees! You folks have spent a few days this summer making piles of the trees, with the anticipation to burn when able this fall. And now is the time to burn them!! Come out to chat with our prairie lovin' community, hang around some burn piles, start and monitor some fires, and help create more with trees as needed. Wolf Haven's Pat Dunn Memorial Prairie Restoration Party Nov 8, 2024
Volunteer for a planting day at Wolf Haven! Get in on the action of planting the thousands of plugs that we have into the ground. It is a perfect time to do so, because with all the rain we have been getting the plugs are sure to be watered in well and should establish quickly to the restored prairie. The day will be spent popping the young plants out of their containers, getting to have a up close and personal look with some our favorite native plants like cinquefoil, and then planting them in their home in the ground. New part-time WSU Pest Biologist I: Biological Weed Control Technician (Temporary) Oct 10, 2024
The Integrated Weed Control Project Director at Washington State University Extension is hiring one part-time, temporary Pest Biologist I: Biological Weed Control Technician. The Integrated Weed Control Project provides invasive weed management support to land managers through education and implementation of classical weed biocontrol. They are based at the WSU – Puyallup Research and Extension Centre but work across Washington State. This is an excellent position for students or new graduates who may be interested in invasive species management experience. This position will primarily focus on propagating knotweed and flowering rush and rearing knotweed psyllids under greenhouse conditions in Puyallup. Bird Community Science Volunteers survey the bird species that use the various habitats of Oxbow. Volunteers work together to perform monthly surveys from April through August. You’ll work alongside our core group of experienced volunteers, who can help boost your birding capabilities from good to GREAT! Ideal volunteers should have some birding experience, including the ability to identify common birds of Western Washington by sight and/or sound. Volunteers should be able to commit 3-4 hours per month and be prepared to wake up early!
